We continue to make progress planning our fire station projects. We are currently evaluating the potential construction/renovation of four fire stations to strengthen and modernize services across our Fire Protection District. Early concepts include a new Fire Station (No. 1) in Newville, which would serve as the District’s headquarters, a significant renovation and expansion of the Fire Station (No. 2) in Edgerton, building a new Fire Station (No. 3 Milton West) on the site of the current Milton Fire Station and Fire Station (No. 4 Milton East) on farmland in the Town of Milton, potentially in coordination with a new Town Hall.
Each station would be designed to a consistent standard, ensuring uniformity and equity throughout the District. If the project moves forward, construction would follow a phased approach to maintain uninterrupted emergency coverage at all times.
Many of our current fire stations are aging and no longer meet the demands of emergency services. We are planning new and renovated facilities to modernize infrastructure, improve emergency response times, and ensure consistent, high-quality service across our Fire Protection District. Our department also covers 19.7 miles of Interstate 39/90 and provides a full range of paramedic-level 9-1-1 response. Adding two additional fire stations will significantly enhance our ability to respond quickly and effectively, especially in high-traffic and growing areas.
No. Construction will be phased to ensure uninterrupted emergency coverage.
Yes. Community engagement is a key part of the planning process. Public meetings and feedback opportunities will be announced on this website and through local channels in the coming months.
Designing each fire station to a consistent standard ensures that all facilities are equipped with similar capabilities, which promotes fairness, operational efficiency, and safety across the District. Standardized layouts and equipment also make it easier for firefighters to work seamlessly across different stations, supporting better coordination, training, and cross-department utilization of personnel and resources.

Yes, for many areas, response times are expected to improve significantly with the move from the current 2-station model to the proposed 4-station model. Overall, the percentage of emergency calls responded to within 5 minutes is projected to increase from 22.9% to 65.9%. Several municipalities—including Lima, Fulton, Edgerton, and Milton (Town)—will see major improvements in how quickly help can arrive.
